Galette des rois

It’s that time of year again – the boulangeries are full of marzipan-filled rounds of pastry. It is the tradition during January to invite people to celebrate epiphany by eating a piece of fairly stodgy pie…just the job after stuffing ourselves with cake and chocolate for a couple of weeks over Christmas!














We managed to get through the whole of last week without any, but have had two already this week, with another two scheduled…










Inside each galette is a little figurine (a ‘feve’) and whoever is lucky enough to find it (and not break a tooth in the process!) has the honour of wearing a gold card crown for the remainder of the proceedings. We avoided it on Sunday, but I’m afraid I was not so lucky this evening! Roll on February!
