Speed traps-French style!

The French are quite hot on speeding violations. Over the past few years there has been a crackdown by the government to reduce the number of traffic casualties, and drink driving regulations have also been strongly enforced. It is strictly against the law to warn oncoming drivers of a speed traps by flashing headlights, and locally several convictions have been reported.

We were quite surprised today, on listening to local radio, to find the repeated advice to report to the station not only any holdups but also any speed traps!! Indeed, after a few minutes we were warned of a mobile camera only a few miles away. So don’t flash headlights as a warning, just listen to the local radio!

Strange lot these French.

  1. A friend of mine (honest) was stopped for speeding, a 117kph in a 90kph forest road and was told by the Gendarme that they would have let him off if he was doing 110 kph!

    loving the blog.
