Au revoir les poulets

The deed has been done. The first of our flock – our two white chickens – are no more. We used to spend Friday evenings in the pub, but here is how we spent yesterday evening…


…on balance I think the pub was more fun! My plucking skills certainly need some honing. Roger had plucked and gutted his by the time I had finished plucking – and mine looked a little worse for wear. We’ve got 4 more chickens and 3 guinea fowl to go, so it can only get better. We were surprised at how heavy they were and also how much fat they had on them – quite different to chickens we usually buy. The extra fat should make them tastier – which we will discover this evening when we enjoy our first home-grown chicken supper!
